"Utopianation"
Imagine if you will a land where everyone is a close friend of everyone. All issues are discussed and agreed upon immediately by all involved. A land that serves bliss for breakfast with a side of stressless jam on the side. A place where the very word equality is not even thought of, but just is. A Utopian society that builds character and compliments just for the shear pleasure of complimenting. We would not need, for instance, a President to run things as we would all be Presidents. There would be zero upperclass because we would all simply have class. A modern age of living, thinking, and just steering away from all dissension. I believe that the fifties represented this fairly close, except for the whole social class thing and of course the Presidency. What I mean is that most individuals had their place. The women took care of the family and the husband was the bread winner. The children spoke to their parents with the utmost respect and all sat down to dinner at the same time and prayed. Of course things did progress especially for the "others" that did not fit into this lovely fifties society. First, women began to resent their roles and desired to obtain a career or an education along with the right to vote. During this time different cultures had been horribly oppressed and began to have movements to protest their treatment while attempting to gain rights as human beings. We progressed. While some women danced around a bra burning bonfire to signify their resentment and commitment to freedom, many individuals came out of the closet. Still we progressed. We managed to create a diverse mess of each other because we, not all, tend to be so post modern that we go above and beyond the call of necessity to cover our own agenda’s, but would have the "others’" believe that we are modern thinkers and care about the needs of each and every one of them. Just like McKee states at least we can agree to disagree and on some issues, on a broad spectrum, we agree whole heartedly. Some of those broad subjects are safety, freedom, and justice. Personally, I would rather live in this time era and welcome opposing opinions. I love the diversity in this nation and welcome the chance to overcome our cultural differences. We may not always agree, but at least we are all here and have the opportunity to learn and overcome any biases from one another. So, a Utopian nation would be dry as well as boring. All public spheres are not harmful one just has to decipher and weed out the negative. I am tired of social class labeling who are the have and the have nots. The media is very influential in our daily lives, so we have to be careful not to get so caught up that we become bias towards one another. Without the input from the movers and the shakers we might just get along fine.
