Blog 6

While reading this book I've noticed just how different two cultures within the same world can be so very different. Everything surrounding us is to blame for this, and this is evident with Valentino. The ways in which he views individuals, goes about his daily life, and even befriends others is somewhat shocking to me in some of the cases. When placed in our culture his own methods of adaptation are seen as weird by most, but to me they're inspirational.
Imagine if everyone was as trusting as this man, as any of the Lost Boys. Imagine going to school everyday, with that blind child-like innocence present in your life. To go, not knowing the dangers surrounding you on a day to day basis and looking at everything as if it was brand-new and there to be explored. That's how he looked at it, because that's what it was to him. Our society is so cold to other individuals we don't know, as you'll see this when doing something as simple as walking to your next class.
When walking, just look at how many people look you in the eye. There is a disconnect between people, instead of embracing those around us, we stare coldly ahead or only pay any attention to those we know. Our own comfort zone is something that is rarely breached by us on a regular basis. The way he looks at things, at people, is encouraging. Yes, his trust is taken advantage of and to look at things in such a naive way is not the smartest thing to do, but to go about this in a semi-productive manner trying to copy some of these antics would be good for our society. It would maybe bring in another sense of warmth that has not been in our culture in too long.
